This 3 night/2 day walking experience in the Bay of Islands will take you to some of the best walking spots in the Bay, and many that are hard to access.
The tour is based out of Russell, and there is a wonderful mix of fine cuisine, vineyards, walking and exploring.
This is all inclusive so you just need to book, nothing more to do!
Day One
Arrive in the Bay of Islands, and to the beautiful village of Russell. You can check into your accommodation from 2pm.
The group will meet in the Duke of Marlborough Bar, and our local Tour Leader will join you to give you a rundown on the next few days.
Your evening meal that night is in the restaurant at the Duke, with a special menu for you as Northland Experiences customers, and a lovely waterfront table to watch the sunset as you enjoy the hospitality.
For those who would like to there is a short evening adventure to spot a kiwi. There has been a high success rate for seeing the kiwi in its natural habitat, but not guaranteed. This entails a short 5-minute ride in the van and a short walk.
Day Two
Today you will be heading off to The Landing, Rangihoua Heritage Park and Marsden Cross.
Pick up is at Russell wharf, from where a boat will take you across the Bay to Marsden Cross. Enjoy the guided tour of this exclusive property. (Alternative rough weather option)
The Landing is a stunning property with a network of
boardwalks and walking trails leading through native bush reserves, wetland, areas and farm paddocks, taking in magnificent rural and sea views and many sites of historical interest.
The Landing Wines are known for their beautifully crafted tropical fruit and mineral flavours, given depth and complexity by Northland’s long, warm summers and coastal aspect.
Be guided through the unique and complex characteristics of The Landing wines and enjoy a delicious two-course shared lunch at the Tasting Room prepared by The Landing’s Chef using the best seasonal produce from their gardens and the Northland region. Plenty of time to enjoy this idyllic spot, relax with a glass of wine, walk a bit more through The Landing trails, and up to the lookout. Their boat will depart from The Landing wharf.
There is plenty to do in the few hours in Russell, and your tour leader can give you a good run down.
Dinner that evening is at one of Northland’s top hospitality businesses for 2020 – Hones Garden. Experience their relaxed atmosphere and exceptional manaakitanga/ hospitality.
Day Three
Board a boat chartered for your group for the day. ‘The Island Explorer’ – this will take you into the heart of the Bay of Islands where you visit 3 of the most stunning islands. Motuarohia (Roberton), Moturua and Urupukapuka Islands. (Alternative rough weather options)
Cruise among the 144 islands, keep an eye out for marine life and NZ native birdlife and an ear attentive to catch the informative commentary and history.
Enjoy a picnic lunch on the beach, and the water is definitely warm enough to swim in as well. After the final island stop sit back and relax with a cold beverage on the journey back into Russell!
Tonight you get to experience the wonderful Paroa Bay Vineyard and dine at their highly acclaimed Sage Restaurant.
The restaurant is perched high above the idyllic Bay of Islands, it is the Moana (ocean) and Whenua (land) that inspire their menu. From the end of the fishing line cast into the sea, to the orchard doors of their suppliers and their very own onsite gardens, their focus is on locally grown and sourced ingredients which combine seamlessly into a uniquely creative brand of New Zealand cuisine.
The boutique vineyard has 16,000 vines, and focus’s on a handful of varietals — Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec.
Day Four
Final breakfast in Russell. We can help you plan the rest of your trip, whether it be more walking or something different – cycling, golf, arts and crafts and more.
